Broken Seagate Harddrive- Seagate hard drive Spindle Siezed

A few weeks ago I dropped my Seagate hard drive I had it break. The spindle seized and I was unable to get my data. For many this can be a catastrophe!

I’m not sure about you but I take my backups really seriously. Fortunately even without being able to recover the data I have a major important and stuff also backed up online with dropbox. that doesn’t mean that I don’t not have data that is irreplaceable on the local external hard drive. I do. Having a hard drive fail is one of the most excruciating hardware issues there are.

Many other hardware issues can be covered simply by buying a new part. Buying a
new Seagate hard drive
certainly always an option. Up until this point I had no real problem with it. The Seagate drives have a lot of space and tend to be fairly reliable, and after all I was the one who dropped it. But that is not the issue. The issue is the data that is lost.

If you have real important information on your hard drive there are online solutions that can be found to repair both seized spindles as well as seized platters. The only thing is that sometimes they are more expensive than the original hard drives themselves.

My recommendation for hard drive safety is simple, and is what I do now. Make sure you always have at least two forms of backup and backups are done on a relatively frequent basis. I actually have three now. I have a Seagate home that does all my networking backups and stays in place ill never be dropped (dumb me) as well as
Western Digital external hard drives
for all of my household computers and laptops (the WD external hard drives are known to be more rugged and reliable than Seagates). And of course I back everything up to drop box one time a month.

If a meteor were to strike my house tomorrow my data would be safe. Now that is what you need to protect your data!
