L80 tape library is more advantageous because it supports the industry leading tape formats including LTO-1 tape, SDLT tape and LTO-2 tape formats.  The drives supported by L80 library are DLT 8000, SDLT 320, SDLT 220, LTO-1 and LTO-2 drives. L80 tape library ensures reliable and efficient backup performance in distributed Windows, UNIX, Linux and Novell operating environments.  L80 tape library provides exceptional scalability as you can seamlessly add more tape cartridges and drives as your needs grow.

Good news is that StorageTek tape library offers more flexibility, as you can make a mix of these tape technologies without any media partitioning or special media management.  StorageTek tape library offers 80 cartridge slots, thus extending the native capacity to 16 TB.  This makes it the perfect high capacity solution for growing businesses and demanding data environments.

Users can install 1-8 SDLT drives and LTO drives.  With LTO-1 tape the native capacity reaches maximum of 8.0 TB.  Likewise with LTO-2 and SDLT tape cartridges, the L80 tape library offers up to 16 TB and 12.8 TB respectively.

L80 tape library belongs to the StorageTek’s L-series library family, therefore the customers are provides with an easy migration path.  As the backup demands grow, the customers can seamlessly upgrade their storage system to a higher capacity tape library.

L80 tape library is built tough to assure rock solid reliability and in-time availability with an MTBF of 360,000 hours and MEBF/MSBF (Mean exchanges/swaps between failure) of 2,000,000.  StorageTek has employed new advanced “any-cartridge any-slot” technology in L80 tape library that empowers the IT managers to utilize multiple drives and cartridges.  Within lesser physical rack space the StorageTek library provides you greater storage capacity, thus saving you both money and shelf space.
